Biographical Information

I was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska before moving to Washington. Growing up, I had horses that I rode competitively as well as for pleasure. My father was a commercial pilot so I learned early that traveling was in my blood. I have traveled to 20 countries and lived in Mexico, where I became familiar with both the culture and the language. I have worked as a school-based counselor, in a community mental health agency, and as a domestic violence victim advocate. I am particularly passionate about looking at the ways in which people connect with each other and subsequently, disconnect from each other. Another area of focus is finding balance in our lives. It is a universal struggle, affecting all of us, especially in our fast-paced, increasingly busy lives.

I believe that laughter is essential in life. Therapeutically, I will look for appropriate opportunities to use humor. Some of the things I do outside the office include: soccer (playing and coaching), boating, writing, reading, traveling, locating wonderful gluten free restaurants, and laughing with my family. I pretty much enjoy anything outdoors, especially on or near the water, but prefer the sun to the rain. During my lifetime I have always lived near the water. I speak English and Spanish and feel a special connection to the local Latina community.

Therapeutic Style

My therapeutic approach varies depending upon your needs. I most often utilize a Cognitive Behavioral, or Solution Focused approach, incorporating reframing to provide a new understanding of your life. I approach each person with dignity and respect through a systemic perspective that includes you as an individual and you as a member of a larger group. I recognize that you come with your own unique story and embedded in that story are strengths and values that can enrich your life. My hope is that together we can find ways to bring out your strengths and insights, so that your life becomes more meaningful and fulfilling. I encourage you to be an active participant in your journey.
