I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. Growing up in Hawaii, I experienced a number of different cultures and life experiences. I decided to attend college at Creighton, in Omaha Nebraska where I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology. After Graduation, I was married and began studies at Chaminade University while working in direct care as a support professional for individuals with developmental disabilities including Autism.
Working as a direct support professional was a humbling and rewarding experience. Supporting individuals with disabilities is where I began to understand the struggles of families with special needs. I have become passionate about my work of helping and supporting others. This is where I learned that little things can make all the difference.
I am also passionate about personal growth. There is a saying,"If you are not growing you are dying." We need to be challenged. Without a challenge we begin to become complacent. My passion is teaching people that the challenges can become a growth vehicle to become a better person, spouse, parent, or friend. It takes intentionality. But I believe the struggle is worth it.
Connecting with my clients is very important. I feel that laughter is something that unites all people and crosses a number of barriers. During therapy, I look for appropriate opportunities to laugh, make connections, break down barriers, and cooperate with struggles that help us grow.
Outside of my work, I enjoy exercising, spending time with family and cooking. I am a firm believer that life short so we need to enjoy all of it.
My approach to counseling is from an eclectic view, this means that I do not solely use one type of theory or approach but will look to other approaches for each situation, based on what we feel may work best. A lot of my work experience is with Cognitive Behavioral but I often use a Solution Focused approach to the presenting situation. My goal is to help you obtain the tools to know what you will need to be successful and help you be able to use those tools to be able to resolve the situation.
I am client centered at the heart of therapy and want the best for all those I work with. I understand that each individual is difference and therapy will differ with each person as we haver own set of experience that have shaped us into who we have become. My goal is to help you utilize these experiences to give you the tools to be the best person you can be. This process will require work, and time but the benefits will be apparent in many different areas of your life. I encourage everyone to put their best in so that they can get the best out.
